Since the crackdown on the students uprising in 1988,  thousands of refugees have fled Myanmar’s Chin state that borders India. According to the UNHCR, there are more than 80,000 Burmese refugees living in India, a majority are of Chin ethnicity. They are now demanding legal protection in India.

In this interview, Cheery Zahau, a Chin Burmese refugee and human rights activist, who fled to India more than a decade ago talks about crossing to India and  the need for legal recognition as refugees.
