"Welcome to beautiful Lampedusa", says the sign inside the arrivals' hall of the Lampeduza airport. Lampedusa is an upmarket resort between Sicily and North Africa. It belongs to Italy, but is nearer to Tunisia than Sicily. It is renowned for its splendid beaches and diving and, increasingly, for the boatloads of desperate migrants smuggled there from North Africa. Of course clandestine migrants receive a completely different reception than tourists…
Following a short transit in Lampeduza’s reception center, the authorities ferry the migrants from Lampedusa to Sicily and allow some of them to apply for asylum. In November 2007, UN Radio’s producer Maha Fayek visited Lampedusa and the reception center three days after the arrival of a group of migrants from North Africa. Radio Dzjambo is een project van Kom-Pas, het Gentse onthaalbureau, waarbij anderstalige nieuwkomers deel kunnen nemen aan allerhande workshops, projecten, bezoeken, enz. Urgent.fm, de jongerenradio in Gent, nam het initiatief om in het kader van de Internationale Migrantendag aan een kleine groep migranten een workshop radiomaken aan te bieden. Nacéra, Nyima, Seyed en Ulas kozen hun favoriete muziek, vertelden hun verhaal, hun wedervaren in België en presenteerden zelf het programma, weliswaar in niet altijd zo vlot Nederlands. En Ouganda, pays anglophone des Grands Lacs, conséquence singulière de l'exil: l'apprentissage du français.
Poussés à l'exil au Zaïre (francophone) en raison de la guerre à l'encontre du Président Idi Amin Dada, des Ougandais ont pu apprendre le français. Acquise à l'occasion d'une situation douloureuse, cette compétence linguistique s'est révélée plus tard un outil pour s'en sortir dans un pays natal anglophone. Depuis le weekend, un groupe de personnes sans papiers occupent un batîment vide situé sur la rue Royale à Bruxelles. Avec cette action symbolique ils veulent souligner encore une fois aux politiciens le problème urgent des sans papiers. A group of Francophone young people from Congo, Sierra Leone and Guinea living in London undertook training for 4 weeks and then made a programme focusing on the issues going on back home and those that face them here in London. It tackles corruption and world economics in Africa, teenage pregnancy in London and features a track written and recorded by the group. The young people were supported in this project by a charity, Nous Aussi, which works to help young French speaking people get back in touch with their history and culture.

La Unión de Radios Libres y Comunitarias de Madrid (URCM), Más Voces como su proyecto informativo y con la colaboración de la Red Estatal de Medios Comunitarios (REMC), han organizado para esta jornada una retransmisión especial de tres horas de duración en directo. Hoy, en el informativo o vamos a presentar un resumen de esta emisión que tuvo lugar de diez de la mañana a una de la tarde (hora peninsular).

Sin Fronteras y la Red de Apoyo a Migrantes, el Ferrocarril Clandestino, aprovechamos el Día Internacional de las personas Migrantes para continuar realizando denuncia pública de lo que sucede en estos Centros de Internamiento de Extranjers. Para ello contamos en el estudio con la presencia de dos compañeras que nos cuentan de viva voz la experiencia de permanecer en uno de estos Centros de Internamiento. Como llegan allí, como es la vida, como se sale de este lugar... Tambien contamos con la presencia de amigos y familiares de personas "retenidas" en la antigua cárcel de Carabanchel que nos cuentan como viven está tremenda experiencia desde una situación de "libertad". Hablamos también con Carlo, del informativo Más Voces, que nos detalla la "directiva de la vergüenza", que prevee que las personas "retenidas" puedan pasar un máximo de hasta 18 meses en los CIEs y para despedirnos, un compa de la organización de las jornadas anticarcelarias nos explica el porqué de estas jornadas y las actividades que se realizaran, entre ellas, una marcha al CIE y a los dos Centros de Menores que se encuentran ubicados en el terreno del antiguo hospital de la cárcel de Carabanchel. www.sinfronteras.blogsome.com.
