Many of these workers are migrant workers facing harsh working conditions and who are at a heightened risk of exploitation. In this new edition of Odysseia we are therefore paying special attention to the 12-by-12 Campaign, launched by the ITUC in December 2011 in partnership with a wide range of civil society organizations.

The sex industry is pushing for changes to Australia's immigration system to give migrant sex workers the same visa rights as other professions and trades. And an independent UN expert on trafficking has arrived in Australia to look at the situation for victims and to discuss this country's anti-trafficking measures.

Philippine immigrant maid wins landmark Hong Kong case

Hong Kong's High Court has ruled that a domestic helper from the Philippines should be allowed to apply for permanent residency in the city. The case was brought by Evangeline Banao Vallejos, who has worked to for the same Hong Kong employer for more than 25 years. The ruling could lead to more than 100,000 other foreign maids winning rights to residency.
