The global economic crisis has slowed down migration in European Union countries but there is still need for skilled migrant labour according to a new report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The report based on a survey of 27 countries says it may take years for the full effects of the economic crisis on migration to become visible but the crisis has had a significant impact on migrants and migration in Europe.

Według raportu, sporządzonego przez The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) i The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), do Wielkiej Brytanii od 2004 roku przybyło 1,5 migrantów ekonomicznych z krajów A8. Dwie trzecie spośród nich to Polacy. Jednakże jedynie połowa polskich imigrantów postanowiła pozostać w Wielkiej Brytanii. Cezary Łasiczka i dr Maciej Duszczyk z Ośrodka Badań nad Migracjami Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego próbują znaleźć odpowiedź na pytanie, dlaczego Polacy opuszczają Wielką Brytanię i czy wracają do Polski.
