Come ogni anno dal 1997, il 18 dicembre si celebra la Giornata Internazionale di Solidarietà con i Migranti: l’occasione nasce dal fatto che in tale data, nel 1990, l’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite adottò la Convenzione Internazionale sulla Protezione dei Diritti dei Lavoratori Migranti.

Ieri, alle ore 10.30, la Corte europea dei diritti dell’uomo ha dato lettura in pubblica udienza, presso il Palais des Droits de l’Homme di Strasburgo, della sentenza sul caso Hirsi, che riguardava 24 persone nel 2009, nel quale è stato violato l’articolo 3 della Convenzione sui diritti umani, quello sui trattamenti degradanti e la tortura, quando una barca con 200 migranti venne rispedita a Tripoli.

From a mere 5US$ a day, the current government’s election promise was to increase that to 10US$ a day equally in every province. But the promise has not yet been fulfilled and workers are still surviving on a wage which barely covers  a workers’ daily needs let alone the needs of their dependents or any security for the future.
