Do they know it’s International Migrants Day? For the two million  migrants in Thailand threatened with deportation from December 14th onwards, December 18th, International Migrants Day has no meaning at all. It is Day 4 of a crackdown which if carried through will bring injuries and deaths in the panic of raids and in the overcrowding of old trucks used to deport people to the borders, it will disrupt the education of children and  the security and stability of families, it will destroy the livelihood of whole villages in Burma.

A new docu-drama is being filmed in Southern Thailand. It tells the story of young Burmese struggling to survive in tough conditions and low-paid jobs on rubber plantations, construction sites and fishing boats.

The film portrays the lives of the Burmese migrants in Thailand – unknown to people inside Burma.  Many Burmese believe migrant workers enjoy a better life after they leave Burma.

Ron Corben joins the film crew for a look behind the scenes.
