    Les mouvements de population, les migrations, ne datent pas d’hier, ils sont aussi anciens que l’histoire humaine.

    Dans la Bible, il est souvent question d’exode, d’exil, comme la fuite en Égypte sous la menace d’Hérode dont les chrétiens font mémoire après Noël, la déportation à Babylone, etc… Il n’est pas très courant de quitter son pays de gaîté de cœur, c’est en général contraint et forcé, sous la terreur et la menace qu’on s’y résout.

    Measures put in place by the European Union to stem the flow of migrants through the Mediterranean Sea are denying genuine asylum seekers the protection they need, according to the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

    The number of migrants arriving by sea in Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Malta has declined by nearly 73 per cent this year as a result of tighter border controls, which include forced repatriation of those intercepted at sea.

    The global economic crisis has slowed down migration in European Union countries but there is still need for skilled migrant labour according to a new report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

    The report based on a survey of 27 countries says it may take years for the full effects of the economic crisis on migration to become visible but the crisis has had a significant impact on migrants and migration in Europe.
